A weekday skincare routine in 5 minutes

Hi beauties!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. If you follow me on instagram you’ve seen my morning skincare routine and I wanted to break down the routine in detail.

I’m always short of time while prepping for a busy workday. Time is of the essence and this is why I prefer to use skincare products that absorb quickly. My morning routine consists of these 5 steps before applying any makeup to my face:

  1. Cleanse/Tone

  2. Essence

  3. (2) Serums

  4. Moisturizer

  5. SPF

Don’t panic…I know that sounds like a lot but the process goes fast. Here’s how…

Step 1 | Cleanse

Twice a week I use my Clairsonic for 1 minute. I use a gentle cleanser in the morning like cetaphil or my favorite A Perfect World Origins cleanser since it’s non-drying. Following a cleanser, I use a rose toner to balance my PH levels and it helps the essence absorb deeper into my skin.

Step 2 | Apply Essence

Since my previous K-beauty haul blog post, I’ve been using the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Essence. This is perfect for my AM routine because the texture is light weight and dries super fast! The benefits of this essence is to plump, brighten, and provide elasticity to the skin. I’ve been receiving compliments on how youthful and how my skin is glowing. So this will remain a staple in my AM/PM routine!

Step 3 | Cocktail serums

Using two serums seems like it would take too much time in the morning. So I cut the time in half by cocktailing. It’s a simple method of combining two serums into one. Here’s a good article by glamour.com on cocktailing.

Currently, I’m cocktailing my Caudalie serum with the Trader Joe’s hyaluronic serum. The Caudalie Vinoperfect serum works for pigmentation and dark spots while the Trader Joe’s serum hydrates. Both are lightweight powerhouses and dry very quick.

Step 4 | Moisturizer

I’ve been using the Biossance Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer since I’m a fan of the Biossance Squalane + Peptide eye gel. I love how fast the moisturizer absorbs into my skin for my AM routine. However, I don’t plan on repurchasing this moisturizer since I noticed my skin feels tight when in a dry room setting. Maybe it works better during the summer or for someone with oily skin.

Step 5 | SPF

I wear spf year round to prevent dark spots. As a brown skin female and having experienced the struggle of finding an spf that doesn’t leave a white film on my face. I’ve been using the Aveeno SPF 50 for years. Not only does it absorb quickly but it actually makes my skin dewy. The dewy surface works perfectly for applying my MAC studio fix powder.

Each step takes about one minute which can make your skincare routine 5 minutes. Here’s a few tips for getting the most out of your 5 minutes and skincare products.

Tips:

  • I apply eye cream after the essence or serums this buys me time during the drying process.

  • Don’t forget about your neck and hands. I always rub any excess into my hands and down to my neck!
